Jessica Watson, 16, of Buderim, Australia, set off from Sydney on the 18th October with the aim of becoming the world's youngest person to sail solo non-stop and unassisted around the world. SatCom Global has sponsored Jessica with her satellite communications equipment for use throughout the epic journey.
"SatCom Global has supplied me the communications equipment and airtime that is a crucial component of my voyage. It enables me to communicate with the outside world both as a safety mechanism and also to keep everyone up to date with my progress."
Fitted with an Inmarsat FleetBroadband 250 and an Iridium handheld - Jessica will be able to update her land based team.
"Mum and dad would never have let me leave without these important pieces of equipment, as it gives them peace of mind that they can keep in touch with me throughout the journey. I can keep them up to date with my progress. I will be utilising SatCom’s communication equipment to send video updates back to my broadcast partner ONE HD, who will keep the Australian public updated of my adventures."
Jessica remains unfazed by those who claim she's too young and inexperienced for such a journey.
"Preparation is 80 per cent of a successful voyage and I've had so many wonderful people assisting me," she said.
SatCom Global wish Jessica all the luck in the world for her amazing adventure. To keep track of Jessica on her intrepid journey, please visit www.jessicawatson.com.au SatCom Global will also keep you updated on her successes via www.satcomgroup.com
